Hey there, fellow photography enthusiasts! Today, we’re going on a journey deep into the depths of my magical camera bag, which I swear is getting heavier as I get older. It’s like the universe is playing a cruel joke on me, but hey, at least it keeps me grounded (literally)!

So, as I contemplate upgrading my photography gear to a lighter setup that would be kinder to my aging back, I thought it’d be fun to reveal what’s currently weighing me down (both physically and emotionally). But don’t worry, I’m not asking you to sponsor my chiropractor visits just yet! 😉

My Current Photography Gear

When it comes to organizing my photography camera bag, I like to think of it as a triple-layer cake of photographic goodness! 🎂📷

Let’s break it down into three scrumptious categories:

My Trusty Sidekick: The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

Meet my beloved Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, the camera that stole my heart after years of dedication to my Canon 60D. This beauty is like the engagement ring of my photography career, always by my side and ready to capture life’s most precious moments. Now, I must admit, my 5D Mark IV is the “fattest” 😅 item on my gear list, pushing my limits with its weight. But somehow, it motivates me to keep it more in my hands, where it doesn’t feel as heavy as it does sitting in my bag. Whether I’m shooting majestic mountains, serene lakes, cascading waterfalls, bustling cityscapes, or even taking on the high-stakes role as my partner’s personal travel photographer, my trusty sidekick never lets me down. 📸

My Heroic Lens: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM Lens

Introducing the lens that has been my hero for many years – the versatile Canon 24-105mm f/4. 🦸‍♂️📷 At the beginning of my photography journey, I couldn’t afford more than one lens, so I chose this all-in-one superstar to cover a wide range of scenes. Paired with my cropped sensor Canon 60D back then, our love story had its limitations, but it was still a match made in heaven. However, when the full-frame Canon EOS 5D Mark IV entered my life, our love knew no bounds! The Canon 24-105mm F4 became my ultimate go-to lens, capturing everything from sweeping landscapes to intimate portraits with ease.

The Game Changer: Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens

Enter the game changer in my photography journey – the powerful Canon 70-200mm f/4. 🎯📸 Initially, this lens was perfect for capturing intricate details or snapping gorgeous shots of my partner. However, it also proved to be an excellent mental workout! After training my eyes on wide perspectives for so long, the telephoto lens presented new challenges with sharp and blurred backgrounds that put my subjects front and center. But due to my penchant for wide compositions, I ended up with hundreds of not-so-great photos at first. 😅

Determined to master this lens, I pushed myself to improve, and soon my eyes began to compose and quickly find stunning details around me. But, of course, another lens meant more weight to carry – adding 695g to my already hefty total of X grams. And we’re just getting started!

My Nighttime Companion: Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Lens

Behold, my first f/2.8 lens – the Canon 16-35mm F2.8! 🌃📷 As my skills improved and my desire to capture stunning night photos grew, this lens became a must-have addition to my arsenal. But as you know, with great aperture comes great financial responsibility. This purchase created a hole in my budget that would take months of sacrificing leisurely beer garden visits to fill. I even started brewing my own coffee and added a thermos to my list of essentials! ☕

Now, I don’t want to turn this into a financial guide, but hey, it’s a great way to start training yourself in the art of savings. 😉 Back to the topic at hand – with this new lens, my total gear weight has now reached X grams.

My Light Tamers: Lee Filters

Next up in my bag of wonders are my trusty Lee Filters – the light tamers that help me achieve the perfect exposure in any situation. 🌞📷 I have a collection of ND filters with 6, 10, and 15 stops, which allow me to control the amount of light entering my lens, making them perfect for long exposures, silky waterfalls, and dreamy landscapes.

Now, let’s talk about the 9ND Medium filter. This bad boy adds just the right amount of darkness to balance out bright skies and foregrounds, ensuring that my photos are evenly exposed and looking their best. So, whether I’m chasing sunsets or capturing bustling cityscapes, these filters have got my back – or should I say, my front (element)!

My Trusty Tripods: Manfrotto beFree & Manfrotto 055

When it comes to stability, I’ve got not one but two trusty tripods in my arsenal! 🌟📷 Introducing the lightweight Manfrotto beFree, my go-to travel companion when flying abroad. This lean, mean, photo-taking machine keeps my gear steady while effortlessly adhering to those pesky airline baggage allowances. ✈️

But let’s not forget the bad boy of my tripod collection – the mighty Manfrotto 055. This rugged and reliable workhorse provides rock-solid support for all my photography endeavors, whether I’m capturing long exposures or shooting time-lapses. Together, these two tripods keep my gear steady and my shots sharp, no matter where my adventures take me.

Essential Accessories: Remote Control & Lens Cleaning Cloth

Let’s talk about the unsung heroes of my photography kit – my remote control and trusty lens cleaning cloth! 🎮📷 These days, I mainly use the Canon Camera Connect app to remotely control my camera, which means no more worrying about leaving my physical remote at home.

Now, you might be chuckling and thinking I’m crazy for calling a lens cleaning cloth one of my most important accessories, but hear me out. Picture this: you’ve got the perfect exposure, the best frame and composition, and the dreamiest lighting – it’s the nirvana we all strive for. But then, all that perfection is ruined by a dirty lens! 😱 That’s why my lens cleaning cloth is always ready to swoop in and save the day, ensuring my photos are crystal clear and free from smudges.

My Backup Camera Hero: iPhone 13 Pro

Gone are the days when my first love, the 60D, served as my backup camera. Enter the iPhone 13 Pro – my new sidekick in the world of photography! 📱📷 At first, I used it merely to test compositions quickly, to see if it was worth taking out my trusty DSLR from its cozy bag. But oh, how times have changed!

Slowly but surely, my iPhone has proven itself to be more than just a composition tester. With its powerful camera capabilities and stunning image quality, it’s become a reliable backup when I need to capture a moment on the go. So, while my heart still belongs to my main camera, the iPhone 13 Pro has definitely earned its place in my photography toolkit.

My Go-To Apps: Editing, Planning, and Beyond

Now let’s dive into the digital realm and explore the apps I rely on the most for my photography adventures! 📱📷 For editing, it’s all about Lightroom and Photoshop – the dynamic duo that helps me turn good shots into great ones. When planning trips, I turn to PhotoPills, an app that’s like having a personal assistant for all my photography escapades. 🌍

For video editing, I’ve got CapCut and Premiere Rush in my corner, ensuring my footage is always looking sharp. And when it comes to filming with my iPhone, the Filmic Pro app is my secret weapon. 🎥 But wait, there’s more! Canva helps me create eye-catching marketing materials, and of course, Google Maps is my trusty navigator in the quest for the perfect shot.
